Day 1 HOG Touring Rally Gunnison, CO
So today for them was just a check-in/registration and a little later a welcome reception. Since I got in the area last night, I'm starting my riding today. I decided to stay in Colorado Springs on Fort Carson, and that worked out perfectly because Pike's Peak is right in the back yard. So to start off my morning, I'm going to head up to the top. Going to jump on I-25 to HWY 24 to Pike's Peak Hwy.
After making it to the top and seeing all there is to see, going to try and check in at a few Harley Dealers and get some more Poker Chips to add to the collection I have going.
Woke up to a beautiful sunrise!
After that I played what can I forget when packing everything on the bike. Would get almost ready and forgot the 12v USB charger...that would not have been good. Then it was mounting the GoPro, and I believe there were a few more but cannot recall. The one thing I did have to go out and re-purchase was a USB for the GoPro! Video can be seen on YouTube.
I left the base and headed to Pikes Peak, and it was phenomenal! The ride, the road, and the weather were perfect, but that aside the view was just amazing. Words and photos just cannot capture the site, or the feeling as you stare out across the vast area. So once the awesomeness wore off, only joking it didn't, I went to take some pictures and what wouldn't be better than selfies?!
After the selfies were complete it was time to head on to Denver. Continued up Hwy 24 through Pike's Peak National Forest, and it was quite barren. I couldn't find anything more recent than:
Hayman Fire, Rehab, and Recovery - 137,370 acres, started on June 8, 2002 &
Mason Gulch Fire - 11,375 acres, started on July 6, 2005.
There was scorched bark and little to no trees on the hills, there was however grass and bush.
If you look closely in the Denver area it appears I tried every bypass around, traffic was awful for a Wednesday afternoon around 2:30-3:00.
Got checked into the hotel and unloaded all my gear so it wouldn't just be sitting out at the Harley dealer, and good old Murphy stopped bye to say hi.
Needless to say I got wet! But I got some cool swag to add to my collection.
