60° in January '18
Planned a little ride today, wanted to get some miles on the last day of January since it is going to be 60°. The total drive time should be about 4 hours and 8 minutes at 189 miles, at least this is what Google says. Counting my trip to Russellville I put a total of 361 miles on the bike.
I woke up and current temperature was 33° with a feels like of 25°, it was a cold start. I was really hoping that feels like came up before it hits the road this morning. And when I hit the road it did not get any warmer, but it didn't get any colder either!
About 20 miles outside of Russellville I did get a little colder and a thought came across my mind, wonder what the high is up here, rookie mistake. As luck would have it, Russellville is reporting a high of 65° and a current temperature of 44°. Guess maybe it was just time for a stop.
My first part of the trip, to save some time, was going up I-40 to Russellville and taking exit 81 jumping on HWY 7/27 headed north. Unsure what the gas options were going to be I jumped off at 84 and went to the trusty Pilot Station, filled up with some gas, and even got a free hot chocolate! Can't beat that.
So work almost made it to 10 before messaging me for something, that was nice. It also made a good time to take a break and enjoy the scenery.
As you can see I had plenty of layers! They consisted of bottom, thermals, pants, chaps, and an insulated layer. Up top I had an undershirt, long sleeve T, long sleeve button up, zip up hoodie, leather jacket and leather vest.
Just after Sand Gap, or about 38.9 miles from I-40 I will keep right on to ARK-123 N. Staying on ARK-123 for another 32 miles til HWY 65 S.
The first bit of ARK-123 N after Sand Gap, was one of the best motorcycle roads I have ever had the pleasure of riding on and is and will be on my list to return. The road was in good condition, there was no traffic and the curves were phenomenal!
Once on HWY 65 S I headed to Marshall, AR, and my timing was right, lunch time. And I'm going to give Boston Mountain Pizza a try.
The Boston Mountain Pizza was great pizza. However I opted for the buffet, and there was about 3/8 of a sausage and pepperoni out, that was cold, and another meat pizza that followed about 20 minutes later. That was very disappointing.
Now that lunch is finished up back on HWY 65 N to backtrack to HWY 333, it is a little detour from the map above, but had an extra 16 minutes of curves.
Once at Sand Gap we are back tracking HWY 7 to Russellville, our starting point.
One the way back, I stopped back at the over look and took a 360 photo!
Was a wonderful little trip, and I hope to plan a head next time to have some other riders with me!
