Upcoming Colorado & Black Canyon of the Gunnison H.O.G. RALLY (Sept.)

So I have a Touring HOG Rally in September that sounds like a lot of fun. Right now I'm in the planning phase, but looks like it's going to happen! Below are the details and a reference link for anyone interested.

Outside the Rally, it is going to be an additional 2 days on the front and back for travel from AR to CO, unless I trailer, then I can probably just add an additional one day front and back. Either way it will make for some long days.


RALLY DETAILS

Four days, three nights: Denver, Glenwood Springs, and Gunnison, CO

The Black Canyon H.O.G. Rally presents the Rocky Mountains in all their majesty. Spend a fun night in the Mile-High City before climbing into the mountains toward Glenwood Springs. Your second day offers a very special treat - a ride through the thrilling Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, over two million years in the making. Several canyons of the American West are longer and some are deeper, but none combines the depth, sheerness, narrowness, darkness, and excitement of the Black Canyon. Finally, head back to Denver through 10,000 ft (3048 m) mountain passes, deep green valleys, sweeping meadows, and endless miles of winding roads.

Day 1: Denver, CO

Welcome to the Rockies! We’ll kick off the festivities this evening with a welcome event at one of our local H-D Dealerships.

Day 2: Denver to Glenwood Springs, CO

There’s no question, riding in Colorado is as good as it gets when it comes to incredible roads, jaw-dropping landscapes, and thrilling elevation changes. Today’s ride will take you through famous ski towns like Winter Park, as well as out-of-the-way gems such as Granby, Toponas, and McCoy.

Day 3: Glenwood Springs to Black Canyon of the Gunnison, CO

Today’s destination is something truly special, and we’ll give you plenty of time to explore and enjoy the views. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison is deep, steep, and narrow – a one-of-a-kind ride through an ancient natural wonder. Then we’ll top things off with a special dinner with some surprises from EagleRider and H.O.G.

Day 4: Gunnison to Denver, CO

Day 4 offers more of the same – in the best possible way: more 10,000 foot peaks, more deep green valleys, more sweeping meadows, and endless miles of winding roads. We’ll be back in Denver by 4:00 so you can get a head start on getting home – or rest up for an extended stay in the breathtaking Rocky Mountains.

 Day two of the trip home was going by Devils Tower. This was on my list to see! Not researching or knowing anything more than it looked cool, it didn't disappoint either! We even saw rock climbers! At Devils Tower, there was another boulder field which Zak and I climbed on with air this time. Somewhere during this excursion, I managed to hurt my back. I believe it was from carrying the camera and camera bag. As irritated as I am over it, I'm glad it waited until the trip home! What is to come...

So we have been doing our research. In my previous post , I mentioned wanting something to communicate with each other on the trip. This is where the majority of my research has been, and I found out some disappointing information. I found a couple of states that did not allow headphones, others that would allow them if they were for communication. Based on this site , state motorcycle laws 2018, Colorado is the only one that still has the law that we will be traveling through. So to try and find out what our options are I turned to Sena's website , and they have a half helmet with them built-in. It appears that the Cavalry is being discontinued and the Cavalry Lite is replacing it. I watched a couple of reviews from some reputable sites, Revzilla, and such and the Cavalry worked at speeds to around 50 mph. Anything faster you lost some of the performance in the built-in mic and wind noise took over. Zak has been trying on some of my old gear and looking into what his look will be....

HOG Touring Rallies 2021

 The HOG Touring Rallies are back on for 2021. And from the looks of it, the just moved the ones scheduled from 2020. So the Riding the Ozarks is back. However this is Zak's Senior Year. His interest in riding and 2021 being his last summer before heading off to college, what better way to spend it than going on a motorcycle trip. With that in mind the Touring Rally I have my eye set on is the Border to Border Posse Ride. They have created an epic 10-day journey that takes you from the Border of Texas at El Paso all the way up the spine of the Rocky Mountains to Roosville, MT and the Canadian Border, and then back to Missoula, MT for our final closing party. This 2,600+ mile route promises a once-in-a-life time journey to some places you may have already visited, but certainly don’t mind coming back to experience again.
