Frustration 2.0

Another wonderful trip for work, working on a network with no computer. Upon leaving work on Friday the plan was just utilizing a thin client system that was previously set up by me. Upon entering the site Tuesday nothing worked. Was given a laptop and told I could work wirelessly. Only issue with this plan is the wireless is dropping connection every 45 seconds to about 1.5 minutes, making web sites difficult. You have about enough time to log into email click the message and read but if you want to change messages you lost connection and have to reconnect. Troubleshot the wired issue most if the morning, turns out network related, plugged into port wrong VLAN. Whatever not big deal I can at least access the network without having to log in every time I want to refresh a page and the Thin Client solution is working.

I get a testing station up for someone to begin testing of the virtualized system they physically built. Just wanting confirmation that it works virtually. We leave for lunch.

Upon return limited connectivity on network my Thin Client is also down. I inform my site contact of the issue, wasn't worried about it I then return to the wireless. He is more worried about the issues of not being able to reprovision  old Thin Clients. We continue on this issue for the rest if the evening realizing that the server moves he made in the prior week were the causing this. Why you want to move VMs around, that are working and functioning properly I'll never know, but they were moved to different hosts. Not making any real progress and frustration at an all time high we call it an evening.

Call me a masochist but I go back for more the next day. Working with another POC today we are connecting a disk array chassis. He has done proper reconnaissance and all goes smoothly, time to fully boot and see what happens. Can't access the system...

My POC from the Thin Client fiasco has returned as well. We mention the issues he decides to log into his Thin Client to check out the network. Mind you when we departed the prior evening, IT WASN'T WORKING! He receives an error about the network...what happened?! He screams. I inform him that mine was doing the same, and that I had mentioned this yesterday on the laptop having limited connectivity.

The search begins, digging his way through the network. DHCP doesn't appear to be working correctly. This in itself is a whole other side of frustration that he wants his firewall to handle everything network releated. Not utilizing the layer 4 switches or Windows Server for DHCP or routing internally. Anyways back to the firewall, it would appear that the running configuration was never saved.

So hear I sit with 4-5 tasks all needing to utilize the network, Thin Client, or vSphere and cannot access any of them. I miss the days when this kind if frustration was only brought on by me, managing my own network, and handled by me!
