The wonders of group interaction

TThe past four days have been a prime example of military interactions.

It all started with a trip to FT Hood. The trip down here wasn't as bad as expected. They next day however was textbook idiocracy. It all started with the wrong people giving direction on how to put the tent up. After a couple of hours and getting nowhere fast the frustration of the dictators was reaching a high. At this point was a prime time for a mutiny. We were successful at this point and sent the A Team off to lunch, and after about 30 minutes the tent was up. About another 15 minutes and someone from the A Team was back from lunch. I asked if they wanted to do something they could stretch the floor out to be put in place and/or put up the remaining equipment that was laid out to dry.

After our driver successfully travelled across the entire installation in search for food we found one. At this point 15 minutes have past. We quickly evacuated the vans and headed in to grab a bite to eat. We just got sat down and started putting food into our mouths and the phone calls and texts start. Mind you the other group has only been left alone and unattended for 20, 25 minutes top. The texts and calls are telling us that the tent fell over.  My group looks to me, I state that it is impossible, if the tent did in fact blow over ther are going to be some serious damage. That there would be a lot of broken pieces. At this point we are just betting they are messing with us just because, so we said for them to just set it on fire.

We took our time and slowly finished our meals dismissing the alleged disaster of the tent blowing over. We pull up to the site and begin to notice that the tent is in fact down.

The thoughts of just turning around and grabbing our gear and heading back to Arkansas was almost a possibility. We pull into the impound with disbelief. How could these guys truly done this in less than 30 minutes of being unattended?! Being a parent I have had a couple of times with this feeling but there was one major difference these are adults, these are the guys I am supposed to trust to cover and protect me...

We exit the vehicle and they are sticking to their stories that the tent just fell over when the wind blew however I still don't believe it. After about 10-15 minutes the truth came out, the floor wasn't lining up so rather than packing up the prices not needed that were done drying they make a command decision to pull the stakes and manually push a 1,600 lb tent into a better position. Again with disbelief how could you be so stupid. And I received a response, we have seen y'all do it before. And to that I respond yes you have Salween us do this, you have also seen us successfully put up the tent, something your group couldn't accomplish why did the notion of this being able to be accomplished cross your mind? So oops sorry was given, I needed no apology, I mean it wasn't my, only God knows how much, tent that was broken.

The next sequence of events just made it better I got to watch the remove pieces of another piece of equipment and cut them to repair the broken poles. I still don't know why this has surprised me, I have been in the military for 15 years, and the stupidity is just second nature.  With the duct tape and pipes over the broken poles they are ready to put it back up.

So after successfully erecting the large tent twice we call it a day.
