Goobertown, AR

Image
I can't speak for Glen, but I haven't had much riding time other than the daily commute to work and back. I did however take advantage of the past weekend, starting off with the brisk upper 40's morning and turning into a beautiful day at about 77. The ride was planned by one of the Central Arkansas HOG Chapter members for his birthday. He wanted a picture in front of the Goobertown sign, just North of Jonesboro. Meeting up at the Rock City Harley Dealer, we headed out. Jumping on Interstate 30 to 440 and off to HWY 70. HWY 70 is a straight shot to rice fields and farmland. Other than the bumpy old roadway, you are just cruising, following the crowd, and trying to find something interesting to look at. Our first stop was a De Valls Bluff, at Break Time gas station. Quick fill up for the smaller bikes, restroom break, and a leg stretch. My GPS game Ingress had a few portals nearby and my travel companion Zak's (son) game Pokemon also had some items. These games make for ...

Lessons Learned

Riding is always a fun experience and you have to constantly learn. For instance, I have a 2 year old bike and have never thought twice about carrying some tools. A stock bike with all the proper maintenance, what could go wrong? Famous last words. Driving across the I-30 river bridge headed to North Little Rock, I went to shift into 6th and was meet with no resistance just a swivel in my shift. Trying to assess the situation in morning rush hour traffic is not the ideal location. Since I was in fifth I was ok for the time being but needed a plan of action for the upcoming exit and stop lights. I knew I would never make the corner, at the off chance of the light being green, in fifth gear and even if I did what then, there are numerous lights ahead. As I was approaching the exit I was quickly trying to make a decision that left me with an escape route. I had a clear shot to the sidewalk with a relatively low curb, so I coasted down and hopped the curb.  Hazard lights flashing I sta...

Deer vs Bike

Image
Well this morning was a cloudy start to a day, but 60 degrees with a high of 70 and clearing up. With the way the weather has been ill take any day to jump on the bike and get a ride in even if it is just to go to work. I started off with all the gear and as the morning turned out in glad I did. After about six miles down Col Gleen road I saw something out of the right corner of my eye. Looked like a dog running out of the fields next to me. It had ears sweep back, head pointed in a sleek aerodynamic style, as if he was racing me. Little did I know and milliseconds later, this was a deer that was not interested in racing just crossing the road. In comparison to the vehicles in front and the similar ones trailing I was his chance to make it across. My R1200C was was nothing in the lineup of SUVs and cars. After the realization that this was a deer it hit me, quite literally. The quick slide down the road and a roll I'm trying to access what just had happened. As luck would have it t...

Chrome Spoke Wheels

Image
So after getting some new tread on the bike I was unloading the tires and they were just nasty. My fingers were black from where I had been holding them and as much as I wanted to ride I also wanted to have that New Bike Shine. I have tried in the previous year or two to clean these chrome rims with not much luck. The front one I had good access to and using anything and everything I could find tried to clean them. After all the fancy sprays and chemicals it came down to a polishing dremel head and hours of time. I got the front one looking fairly decent with minor damage from the dremel. The back one however was very difficult to access and didn't get much attention. So before I put the tires on and look at the dirty bike during this rain filled April week I decided to try again.  I got the spray And a brush and after these two I was looking like this. Better but now the chrome draws in you attention and the black just looks awful. At least before it was all black.    So...

Work time

To get ready for the rising season, better late than never. I got the C into the Bentonville BMW for the 24k service (belts, fluids, & other things). Something that was noticed was tires are a little warn.  Ok maybe a lot warn, so they didn't have  the brand I wanted so bought some from Amazon. Needless to say I caught some crap from all my long time riding buddies due to the either old or retreaded tires out there. So a little worried on what I just bought I looked up the manufacturer and found their production date. The 51st week of 2013 & 31st week of 2014, not sure what that is doesn't seem to be old to me, anyone else have an opinion? So with some tools and a manual I start this endeavor.  18 & 16 hex 17mm 4.5 allen 14mm & 3/4 ext for the perfect Axel push So for the front tire you have to remove the brake calipers.  Lucky for me I have a Moto Light in the way.  So with the 17mm removing the retaining screw in the axel and then loosening the...

Thanksgiving

Really looking forward to the family time!  Tents are up, computers in place and network is...almost ready but not really.  I have to send a special thanks to the guys that volunteered to stay and allow the rest of us to come home for Thanksgiving. I person all think we owe them something! Just a couple of days home and the rough BS of setting up the TOC and I really don't want to go back, but all good things must come to an end. Until then I'm enjoying it!!

Day Two/Three of Hood

Today's activity involve putting up smaller tents. With high tension between everyone with an opinion for how to put these tents up it made for a difficult task. Our group of about 5 people branched off and started with our tent while the remaining 15 started on another.  After our tent was standing we look over at the other team and it also is standing however there are parts missing and there is a descution of how it needed to turn. Laughing a little to ourselves we drive on and move to the next part of the set up and again after finalizing this portion we check on the others. They have brought their tent down and put on the missing pieces and have it back up but are still discussing the position.  We finalize our tent and are watching and get asked to quit sitting around and come help. A comment from us that they had more than enough people was not accepted with kind looks. One of our teammates has gone over, looked at the status and gave an opinion of the next course of ac...
